Something that should end up in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The idea that The Edge's guitar is going to a private collector sorta bugs me... if there's things that should be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame, it's The Edge's tour guitar and Bono's sunglasses. Seriously!

Fundraising: Music Rising auction yields $2.4M - USATODAY.com: "NEW YORK (AP) — A fundraising auction of music memorabilia from Jimi Hendrix, The Edge, Bono, Paul McCartney and others smashed expectations and brought in $2.4 million, some of which will go to a charity that replaces musical equipment lost to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
'It was the best sale we've ever done,' said Darren Julien, president and CEO of Julien's Auctions, which ran the event benefiting Music Rising.
A guitar owned by Jimi Hendrix was sold for $480,000.
Music Rising was co-founded by The Edge, the U2 guitarist who donated his favorite instrument, a 1975 Gibson Les Paul that he has played for years. The guitar had been expected to bring $60,000 to $80,000, but it went for $288,000, including the commission.
Other highlights included a pair of sunglasses donated by Bono that went for $24,000, a guitar from Bob Dylan that sold for $192,000 and a guitar from Paul McCartney that brought in $81,600."

Over and out

Another year, another early exit... and this year is just as galling as last year. A re-loaded offence didn't do ANYTHING in this series, and we traded off our stimying defensive play for that? Instead the poor Kipper got hammered constantly.

*SIGH*

Devastated fans were left to sulk on their way home after watching the Calgary Flames lose 2-1 in double overtime to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night, eliminating Calgary from the 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Despite the heroics of goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff, Detroit's 55th shot by Johan Franzen at 4:23 of the second overtime resulted in the series- clinching goal for the Red Wings at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Jarome Iginla opened the scoring for Calgary early in the second period and Robert Lang tied the game for Detroit 12 minutes later."

At least us McCombs folks aren't the only ones who can complain...

You just escaped certain death... what are you going to do next??!?!

If you were Bush II's Thanksgiving dinner, the answer is:

I'm going to Disneyland!

Bush pardons Thanksgiving turkeys; gobblers to reside at Disneyland ranch - Yahoo! News: "Following the ceremony, the 15.75-kilogram National Turkey and its alternate will be given a police escort to a Washington-area airport, placed in first-class airplane seats and be whisked off to sunny southern California.
They'll be part of Disneyland's holiday display and serve as honorary Grand Marshals for the theme park's annual Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, according to the White House website."

What do you do with a $7B cash stockpile?

If you're Apple, use $1.25B of it to practically lock out any competitors in the MP3 marketplace, obviously.

Nice move Cupertino!

2010: Apple's Flash Storage Odyssey - Gizmodo: "Back in September we mentioned that Apple was effectively screwing everyone out of the 4GB and 6GB flash player market because Samsung was offering a huge volume discount to the company (up to 50 percent for the nano). Now its been announced that Apple reached a long-term agreement with Hynix, Intel, Micron, Samsung Electronics and Toshiba to secure the supply of NAND flash memory through 2010, truly sealing the deal. And just to make sure its signed, sealed and delivered, Jobs is planning to prepay a total of $1.25 billion for flash memory components over the next three months. Happy Holidays, everyone!"

Things that would be really cool to buy

Johnny Carsons desk up for auction - TELEVISION - MSNBC.com: "Other memorabilia up for grabs: a studio clock, a 3-foot-square section of flooring Carson stood on to deliver his monologue from August 1985 to May 1992, and audio recordings he made in 1949 at the University of Nebraska for his senior thesis, How to Write Comedy for Radio."

Nice quote from the head of the Vatican Observatory

Vatican Official Refutes Intelligent Design - Yahoo! News: "'God in his infinite freedom continuously creates a world that reflects that freedom at all levels of the evolutionary process to greater and greater complexity,' he wrote. 'He is not continually intervening, but rather allows, participates, loves.'"
